Designed for those interested in the allied health and fitness professions, the Online Master of Science in Kinesiology (MSK) provides students with a breadth of knowledge in kinesiology including an emphasis in behavior change, exercise physiology, program design, movement science, and evidence-based practice in kinesiology.
The program combines a rigorous academic experience with real-world applications to address a variety of health-related issues facing our society. MSK students gain experience evaluating individual needs, developing exercise and wellness plans, and educating individuals and their families. The program curriculum bridges theory, evidence-based practices and practical application. A solid foundation of core courses along with specialized instruction in current topics prepares professionals to positively impact the populations they serve.
In addition to the comprehensive general coursework, the program features a culminating experience or thesis (student option) that provides students with a practical experiential learning opportunity or a research experience.
The MSK can be completed in 4 semesters (18 months), is offered 100% online, and students have the option of attending full or part time.
*An applicant who does not have a major in Kinesiology must take or have taken three undergraduate courses from the areas of biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control/learning, applied kinesiology, or functional anatomy and one course from the areas of sport psychology or exercise psychology with a grade of C or better.

Admissions Requirements
The Online M.S. in Kinesiology admissions committee takes a holistic approach to admission decisions. Acceptance into the program is based on the candidate’s potential for academic and professional success, as determined by the committee.
Online M.S. in Kinesiology Admission General Requirements:
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
- Must take or have taken three undergraduate courses from the areas of biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control/learning, applied kinesiology, or functional anatomy and one course from the areas of sport psychology or exercise psychology. Courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.
- Completion of prerequisite coursework
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 units of undergraduate coursework*
Prerequisites
College/University-level course with a grade of C or better in the following three content areas:
- Human Anatomy
- Human Physiology
- Introductory Statistics
Conditional Admission
Upon approval of the academic coordinator, and in consultation with the admissions committee, students not meeting all program entrance requirements may be admitted to the program with conditionally classified standing. In these cases, the Academic Coordinator will develop criteria on an individual basis that must be met for advancement to classified standing.

In order to successfully complete the Online M.S. in Kinesiology program at CSU Bakersfield and graduate, students must:

Tuition and Fees
The Online M.S. in Kinesiology program consists of 30 credit units of instruction.

General financial aid tips and information:

Priority date for filing for financial aid is March 2nd. Financial aid applications are typically available October 1st.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Late applications are accepted after the priority date, but awards to late applicants depend upon the availability of remaining funds. Processing of the FAFSA by electronic submission is 7-14 days faster than submitting a paper application.

The schools listed on your FAFSA will receive electronic copies of your student aid report (SAR) and is used for financial aid eligibility calculations. Once your award is determined, you will receive a financial aid award letter via e-mail. Review it carefully, and follow the instructions included with the award letter.

Your fees will be deducted from your financial aid disbursement once your award is verified by CSU Bakersfield Extended Education. Should your financial aid not disburse, you will be financially responsible for all fees.

How to Apply
To apply to the Online M.S. in Kinesiology program at CSU Bakersfield, submit the following:
*One official hard-copy (unopened) or digital transcript from all colleges attended. Digital transcripts must be sent directly from the college attended to dptranscripts@csub.edu. Any transcript from a college / university outside of the United States will require a course-by-course analysis from a transcript evaluation services such as World Education Services (WES). See WES website for more details. Note: If you received your bachelor's degree from CSU Bakersfield, skip this step. You'll be contacted if any further transcripts are required.
How To Submit Your Application
Complete your application online through Cal State Apply. Select "Kinesiology" under the "Bakersfield Extension" section. Complete all the necessary steps and submit.
