Dr. Jeff Moffit is a 22-year veteran of higher education with additional work experience in clinical orthopedics and public school teaching. Raised in the Central Valley (Visalia, CA) he attended College of the Sequoias and then CSU Fresno where he earned both his bachelor’s and master's degrees. He earned a doctoral degree from the University of Northern Colorado with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology. Teaching assistant roles at both universities prepared him to return to CSU Fresno to teach undergraduate and graduate students as a full-time lecturer.
A tenure track opening brought him to CSU Bakersfield in 2001. Since that time, he has served as department chair and taught a variety of undergraduate courses to include most of the foundational Kinesiology classes offered by the department and all but one of the exercise science courses. He has supervised hundreds of internships over the years which have led to students successfully developing job skills and obtaining career opportunities. While his own research interests include cardiovascular and biomechanical influences on endurance sport performance, he has mentored student researchers and served on thesis committees for study topics ranging from physiology to educational leadership.
His 40-year long history of endurance sport competition includes participation in the Ironman Triathlon World Championships and provides him with practical experience with the topics he teaches and researches. Even his family life, where his wife is a Physical Therapist and a son is a Kinesiology professor, keeps him personally connected to the discipline. He has a genuine passion for helping students evolve into professionals who strive to understand, document, and apply the innumerable ways in which physical activity is found to be the most effective modality for improving health and wellness.
