In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, CSU Bakersfield Extended Education is offering a free course within select certificate programs to our brave first responders who are currently putting themselves in harm’s way to care for those with COVID-19 and protect society at large.

“With all that is happening in the world right now, we wanted to give back to those who give so much unselfishly.  The men and women that are on the frontlines working to help keep us safe and healthy deserve our thanks,” said Jennifer Patino, director of Professional and Continuing Education at CSU Bakersfield. “A way to say thank you is to offer them a free class when they have the time and when this pandemic has subsided.”

The offer applies to new or currently enrolled first responder students in the following programs:

“The first responders and health care professionals in our area have been working hard in this stressful time,” said Dr. Mark Novak, Dean of Extended Education and Global Outreach. “We thought at CSUB, ‘How can we help?’ We know that these professionals need continuing education units to maintain their credentials. We’d like to offer a free course in one of our professional development certificate programs to express our thanks for all that they are doing.”

New students can choose to take a single course for free without applying for admission to a certificate program. Should new students choose to apply for admission to any of the certificate programs listed above, the application fee for one program will be waived in addition to receiving the first course free. The offer is good through December 31, 2020.

First responders interested in taking advantage of this offer can visit our website at extended.csub.edu/firstresponders for additional details, or contact Jennifer Patino at jpatino@csub.edu.

“CSUB thanks all of our first-responders and those working in healthcare,” said Patino. “Stay safe and well.  Together, we will get through this.”
