The Occupational Safety and Risk Management Certificate program at CSU Bakersfield requires the following:

Students who successfully complete all courses with a grade of “credit” will be awarded a certificate. To receive a grade of “credit” you must complete all course work with a 70% or higher, the equivalent grade of a “C” or better. After successful completion of all courses, a certificate will be awarded by CSU Bakersfield Extended Education.

OSRX 8010 (2 CEU) Occupational Safety and Risk Management-General

The Occupational Safety and Risk Management – General course covers the underlying core competencies of common safety elements in the general industry standards.  This course covers topics such as the various safety, health, and environmental careers, develop writing and basic recordkeeping techniques, and understand the fundamental general industry safety along with introducing the students to regulatory interpretation.  

OSRX 8011 (2 CEU) Occupational Safety & Risk Management-Core

Occupational Safety and Risk Management – Core diversifying the regulatory instruction with a focus on the subjects within the general industry standards, MSHA, and environmental regulations.  This course includes elements of behavior and the human factor in safety to balance the students’ understanding in safety and risk management fields. Augmenting the students’ soft-skills by developing research competencies complement the safety and risk management readiness by preparing students to locate and discover facts for the decision-making process and promoting a safe workplace.

OSRX 8020 (2 CEU) Occupational Safety and Risk Management-Foundation

Occupational Safety and Risk Management – Foundation covers the instruction of regulatory and legislative material with a focus on construction, agricultural, and oil & gas industries.  Expanded concentration on OSHA vs. Cal/OSHA, safety culture, and environmental regulations are combined to develop the students’ overall understanding in safety and risk management fields.  Research and presentation skill development culminate to prepare students to conduct effective on-the-job safety meetings. 

Typical costs are as follows:

• Instruction = $2,100 (3 courses at $700 per course)
• Books = $250
• Miscellaneous supplies = $100

Approximate total cost of program: $2,450
