The Open University program at CSU Bakersfield allows anyone not admitted to the university to enroll in CSUB courses. Open University students enroll with a number of different goals, including:
- Satisfying a prerequisite requirement for graduate school
- Adding a new skill for a job search or career advancement
- Completing a particular course not offered or full at their home university
- Prepping for a professional exam, such as the CPA exam
- Exploring a personal interest
- Raising GPA to become eligible to re-enroll as a main campus student
