MSW Writing Proficiency Exam Registration & Details

As part of the admissions process, MSW applicants are required to complete the MSW Writing Proficiency Exam – a timed, proctored, in-person exam administered on the CSUB Antelope Valley campus. 

The exam will be administered for the final time on Saturday, March 9th at 10 a.m.

The prompt is provided below so applicants can prepare, but no outside resources (notes, outlines, phones, etc.) will be allowed during the exam.

To prepare for the exam, review the prompt below. Applicants will write a response to this prompt during their exam.

• WRITING PROMPT: Provide a personal statement that describes your interest in social work. Your essay shall be two pages double-spaced (using 1-inch margins and 12-point Times New Roman Font) and should address the following:
  • Significant personal, academic, and /or professional factors influencing your decision to pursue a Master of Social Work degree.
  • Relevant personal, academic, and/or professional experiences, qualities, and/or abilities that will contribute to your overall success as a graduate student and in the social work profession.
  • Your career goals, commitment to social change (or justice), and interest in particular social work issues, including specific populations.
  • Specific reasons CSUB Department of Social Work is a good fit for your educational and professional goals.

Be sure to carefully follow these directions:

1. View Available Time Slots:
   • On the sign-up page, you should see a calendar displaying available time slots.
   • There is only one remaining slot available – Saturday, March 9th at 10 a.m.
      
2. Select a Time Slot:
   • Click on the time slot that suits your schedule and preferences, and click Register.
   • Each session has a limit of 25 attendees. If a session shows as unavailable, then all the seats for that time slot have been filled. March 9th is the final opportunity. No additional dates will be added.
      
3. Enter Your Information:
   • Fill in the required information, such as your name, email address, and any other details requested. If you have previously used Eventbrite, you can login to complete your transaction, or complete as guest.
      
4. Confirm Your Booking:
   • After entering your information, book the selected time slot.
   • Review your details to ensure accuracy upon confirming.
      
5. Receive Confirmation:
   • Once you confirm your booking, you should receive a confirmation email or notification.
      
6. Manage or Cancel Booking (if needed):
   • If your plans change, and you need to reschedule or cancel the booking, refer to the confirmation email or return to the MSW Writing Proficiency Exam registration page.
   • Changes can be made up to 48 hours prior to your selected time slot.
