The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Certificate program consists of three courses and a culminating experience project (also referred to as a Capstone project). The Capstone project is reviewed within the third course (GIS and Decision Making) and is not its own, stand-alone course. A grade of at least “C” in all three courses and the completion of the Capstone project are required to receive an official GIS Certificate from CSU Bakersfield.
The GIS program also requires students to use Blackboard, CSUB's online learning platform, which will require a reliable internet connection in order to access the system off campus. Multiple computer labs will be available to students on campus during each semester; however, the campus is closed on Fridays during the summer and during holiday/break period. Therefore, while not required, it is recommended that students have access to the GIS software from a personal computer in order to complete course tasks or Capstone project components away from campus.
