The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Certificate program consists of three courses and a culminating experience project (also referred to as a Capstone project). The Capstone project is reviewed within the third course (Web GIS and Field Data Collection) and is not its own, stand-alone course. A grade of at least “C” in all three courses and the completion of the Capstone project are required to receive an official GIS Certificate from CSU Bakersfield.
The GIS program also requires students to use Canvas, CSUB's online learning platform, which will require a reliable internet connection via your personal computer.
While not required, it is highly recommended that students obtain a personal computer that meets the requirements necessary to operate the ArcGIS Desktop software suite. Please review those computer system requirements before purchasing a new personal computer. The Windows operating system is required to use ArcGIS Desktop software.
